Cows and Cobblestones

The more time that I spend here, the more that admire the city, the country and it's people. The graffiti art on the buildings is abstract and funky. I do not understand the images one bit. Yet, I find it fun to keep an eye out for the next greatest piece and even if they are fairly depressing in nature, they do give life to the concrete building slabs.

It appears that no work is done the easy way. Downtown, train tracks are being rebuilt and piece by piece the cobblestones are laid by hand. There is an apartment complex being built next to ours and pretty much always, the crews are out stacking bricks. Tuesday it rained all day, and as I was walking home in the rain, a crew of at least 10 were still spending the day building away. They're redoing the sidewalk into our apartment - two guys picking up the cobblestone and getting ready to re-lay them.

The park by our house is large (72 hectares) and lovely. As I've been walking through the past couple weeks, a small crew has been busy hand raking the tremendous amounts of leaves into piles. The past couple of days, they have been transferring the piles to rubber garbage cans and dumping them into a trailer. They still have a lot to go. I do hope they own a lawn mower, guess I'll find out this spring...

Trucks are a very rare sight here. It seems like most or perhaps all of the Home Depot type stores offer free delivery of your goods. So when we ended up driving behind this cow going for a ride, I thought it was perhaps one of the sweetest things ever.

That's all of my random musings for today, hope it gave you just a little bit of insight into the culture.

Do zobaczenia. (See you later - doh zoh-bah-cheh-n'yah)

  1. A true Montanan would notice the stock trailer! Tim Gill just returned from Ireland and had a photo of a car pulling a stock trailer of sheep! Love the park!
