A collection of shots from Rome and Bergamo, Italy.

The Altare della Patria stands in honor of Victor Emmanuel (first king of unified Italy) and is controversial for being too pompous of a monument. Built in the early 1900's it definitely stands out in both size and whiteness.

One of my favorite towns is that of Bergamo. Quaint and friendly, there are so many gorgeous views and eating is taken very seriously. Beautiful bakeries and delightful pizza creations with toppings such as blue cheese, walnuts and ham and another that I enjoyed in which the pizza was drizzled with cream instead of a sprinkling of cheese. Ohh my dear pizza heaven.
Divided into two sections by a hill, citta alta is the city up on the hill and citta bassa is the lower town.

A true American food nerd - this pizza shot was essential. A big thank you to my table mate and fellow blogger for the impromptu food photography lesson!

One of Bergamo's specialties are these little cakes called Polenta e Osei. Their name is derived from an appearance resembling polenta which is also a specialty of the region however there is none to be found in these yellow cakes. Filled with a chocolate mousse and coated with sugar, they are topped with a marzipan Osei (bird). And they are a glamorous treat - like Twinkies in stilettos.
